Dedicated employees
Two events sponsored by the Sarasin Group are excellent illustrations of how community involvement can be combined with sport and fun: The eight-man delegation from Sarasin Hong Kong joined in when Hong Kong's business centre was transformed into a funfair of light-footed managers and creatively-dressed teams to mark the annual CENTRAL Rat Race in mid October. The participants' task was to pass on a briefcase in a kind of relay race over a distance of 2.5 kilometres. Over 450 people took part in the charity race, held for the sixth time, and together raised a total of USD 337,000. This will be donated to organisations and projects in Hong Kong and China which work to improve mental health.
The second example originates in Switzerland: In April 2011 the Swiss Championships "Alpine Skiing for the Visually and Physically Handicapped" took place in St. Moritz. Volunteers from Bank Sarasin supported the entire proceedings and the event was organised by the Swiss Laureus Foundation. Bank Sarasin has been a national partner of this organisation since 2011. Joachim H. Straehle, CEO of the Bank, is a member of the Board of Trustees. The Laureus Foundation supports projects which reduce the social challenges facing children and teenagers by encouraging them to participate in sporting activities, thus motivating them to cope better with their circumstances.
First aid course for employees
In June 2011 Bank Sarasin once again conducted an emergency first aid course in Basel so that employees can help in emergency situations. Participants had an intensive day to complete. The correct actions were trained and practiced at several stations for different emergency situations.
Solidarity for Somalia
Following the devastating famine in Somalia employees from all Bank Sarasin-Alpen branches joined forces to raise money. The donation by the employees was matched by a corporate donation of the same amount. Thanks to this commitment a total of AED 250 000 was donated to UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund.
